A man is in custody Friday after allegedly attacking a clerk while robbing an adult bookstore in downtown San Diego.

The robbery and assault at the F Street Bookstore at 751 4th Ave. near Horton Plaza was reported to police at 4:12 p.m. Thursday, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

The gunman entered the bookstore and demanded money from a clerk, then tried to strangle the clerk with a wire, Stafford said. The clerk fought back and injured the robber on his head.

The injured robber then forced open the cash register and ran away with the money. Stafford said he was arrested about six blocks from the bookstore.

He was bleeding from a wound on his forehead after the clerk hit him, according to Stafford. His name was not immediately released.
