Catalog priced movies, who’s got it?

Times are tough these days, I know. So why not stock up on all that great product that you can retail for $10-$15. In industry terms, we call that stuff “catalog”. Catalog titles are usually features and they are typically older titles that have run their course as a New Release and can no longer command top dollar. Instead of just sitting on that product, studios will drop titles to catalog pricing in order to spur sales. Studios typically do this in quantities of 25 or 50 titles at a time.
Now there’s a lot….let me stress a LOT…of product available at catalog prices these days. The number of studios with catalog-priced movies is higher than ever before.
Some of these studios may no longer be in business, so their product is being liquidated at a reduced price. Product from these defunct studios is always tricky. You have to take the risk that the studio may have went out of business because their movies straight up sucked. But some studios just went out of business because of mis-management, not because the movies themselves were bad.
Other studios are old stalwarts that have been around since the dawn of porno time. Wicked, Vivid, Adam & Eve…these guys have libraries of 1000 movies, so many of their original productions are available at reduced prices.
Still other studios might be newcomers who just drop their movies to catalog really quickly. In the biz we call that “whoring out” your product. Making it too cheap, too fast. While this doesn’t always work out for studios, it’s nevertheless always a winning situation for retailers. If a good studio wants to whore their product out, why would a retailer frown upon that?
So that all being said, here’s some studios that I know firsthand have catalog titles available. Keep in mind that these aren’t “temporary” specials, these are studios with dedicated catalog pricing. Call your distributor and don’t ask…DEMAND…that they get these to you. If your distributor can’t get the job done, contact the studio and they will make sure that you get the titles. Trust me, studios want you to carry their product, and they’ll work to make sure you can get them.

Each of those studios probably has AT LEAST 100 titles that are available at catalog pricing. There’s probably 2500 titles just sitting there waiting to be picked up and priced to sell at your stores.
