Is AVNAds finally dead? Does AVN still profit from piracy?

October 15, 2009 by Amy · Leave a Comment

So for about a year I bitched and complained and screamed to the top of my lungs about how silly it was that studios were supporting AVN when AVN themselves was making money off of piracy.  But now it looks like AVN’s little game of getting studio ad dollars while at the same time helping rip off those same studios has come to an end.

Quick recap:

AVN had a program called AVNAds that sold ad space on piracy sites.  So AVN not only helped keep piracy sites afloat but they also profited each time they connected an advertiser (like Adult Friend Finder) and a piracy site (like xhamster.com).

Looks like AVN has finally pulled the plug on AVNAds as the website now redirects to etology.com.  AVN head honcho Paulie Fishbein told me a year ago that he had just licensed the AVN name to Etology and that there were no piracy sites in their network.  I proved this to be completely false.

But it looks like AVNAds is finally dead.  It’s about time.  I for one was tired of the self-proclaimed “Industry Standard” lowering the bar for ethics in our industry.
